Fire Restoration Company - Can Professionals Help After a Home Fire?

A home fire is one of the most traumatic experiences you and your family can go through. After the initial shock, there are countless things to do, decisions and phone calls to be made. One of those phone calls should be to a fire restoration company. Why? Because a fire restoration company can help guide you through the difficult process of restoring your damaged belongings, furniture, carpets, floors and walls suffered from the actual fire, smoke or water.

Once your home has been cleared safe to re-enter by the fire department, you will need to go in and make a list of everything that has been damaged, and the type of damage i.e. fire, smoke, or water (or all 3.) If possible, try to find receipts and warranties for the various items like furniture, jewelry, carpets, etc.

Next, you will need to call your insurance company and let them know what's happened. They will likely send out an adjuster to your home to survey the damage. You can supply them with the list you've made, and any receipts you've found. This will help things go smoother when you are submitting your claim. If you rent your home, you will need to also contact the owners.

Depending on the extent of the damage, you may need to find another place to live until your home is fully restored. Your insurance company should be able to help find you a temporary place, or you may choose to stay with relatives.

You will need to contact a fire restoration company as soon as possible to start salvaging your belongings and furniture. Again, your insurance company should be able to refer you to a reputable company (that's what you pay premiums for, right?) They will come and survey the damage, and decipher what needs to be done, and how long it will take.

Each situation is different, and each type of damage is restored differently. For example, smoke damaged walls will need a different treatment than scorched walls. Water damaged furniture will be treated differently than smoke damaged furniture, etc. Trying to do the restoration yourself can sometimes cause even more damage. The clean-up is best left to the professionals.

The fire restoration company will explain to you exactly what needs to be done, and will treat your belongings with the respect and care that they deserve. They know you have been through a harrowing experience and their job is to lessen your stress as much as possible.
