Fire Damage Repair Is Always Available

Fires are often destructive, life-changing events. What many people don't realize is that there are very effective methods for cleaning up the aftermath of this terrible event. No matter how much smoke and debris is left behind, fire damage cleanup services can make a difference. Hiring the right help can take a load off the customer who will also be dealing with other frustrations during that time. It is only right that a damaged home be properly assessed to determine what needs to be done inside.

Fires are dangerous. Many lives are risked when these disasters take place. But even for those who may survive fires, there are still plenty of heart-breaking consequences following the vicious flames. Homes and property are destroyed as well as personal items. Sometimes things cannot be salvaged or replaced. This causes even more hurt and pain. People can become displaced from the only place they've ever known as home. In some cases, people have to start their entire lives over again. Another thing that can cause damage is the process it takes to put out the fire; water damage can easily result.

One of the most obvious consequences of fires is the smoke that they cause. Even days after the flames have disappeared, the strong smell of smoke can stick around. This smell is unhealthy and unpleasant. Only the most skilled and experienced professionals will know how to get rid of it. These professionals will know exactly how to operate the equipment that will blast this smell away for good. Things like air scrubbing and deodorization processes can make any building smell just as clean and fresh as before.

When it comes to fire damage, a lot of reconstruction may be needed to repair a home or business. From roof repairs to total demolition, workers who have resolved flame disasters before will know the perfect solution for each situation. The destroyed building will be carefully evaluated to determine how to move on from such a devastating event.

Inferno destruction can be such a huge event that it takes knowledgeable experts to complete the tasks involved in truly repairing a place. Nobody can complete these tasks alone. There can still be hazards after a building has gone up in flames, and only the most skilled person will know how to go and build up a place to be as safe as before the disaster. A devastating event does not have to mean the end of a place. These types of unfortunate disasters can happen to anyone at any moment and this is why fire damage repair services are readily available to those in need. Cleanup can be hard work. It's good to know that a helping hand isn't hard to find.

After the Water Recedes: What to Expect During Restoration of Big or Small Water Damage in Your Home

Water damage in a home can be a frightening prospect. Whether the damage is from a storm or from a leaking pipe, the water can cause untold amounts of damage to the structure as well as all the belongings inside it. Time is not your friend when you're dealing with water damage - if you have or suspect you have water damage, do not delay in calling for help and repair from your trusted contractor.

Water Categories

One of the first things that need to be determined when there is water damage is what kind of water caused it. There are three categories of water, rated on their contamination level.

Category One is clean, sanitary water, also known as clear water. This most commonly is found in clean water supply lines, such as those leading to a faucet, or in bottled drinking water. While this water has little or no contamination in itself, it can degrade into a higher category quickly if it comes into contact with outside contaminants in the environment.

Category Two, also known as grey water, is water that is mostly clean but does contain some contaminants. This kind of water is found in washing machine or dishwasher overflow, as well as toilets and bathtubs. This category of water may cause discomfort or illness if ingested, and can degrade into category three if it comes into contact with further contaminants in the environment.

Category Three water, also known as black water, is grossly unsanitary, containing a high level of contamination. It can cause severe illness or even death if ingested. Sources of this kind of water include sewage, flooding from rivers, wind-driven rain, and standing water that supports bacterial growth. If left untreated, all water will eventually reach this level of contamination as it comes into contact with bacteria and other microbes.

Extent of the Damage

Once the water contamination level has been determined, it is next necessary to determine the extent of the damage.

Class One water damage generally only affects a small area, or affects an area with very little porosity such as concrete. With no wet carpet or other highly porous materials, class one damage is the least dangerous and the easiest to repair.

Class Two damage can affect an entire room, and often includes carpet. Water may also have soaked into the walls up to 2 feet. There may be moisture in the structural materials of the building.

Class Three water damage is total saturation of walls, ceilings, insulation, carpet, and walls. Water often comes from overhead in these situations.

Class Four damage is reserved for unique or specialty drying situations, in which materials with low porosity (such as hardwood, plaster, brick, stone, or concrete) have become saturated. There may be very deep pockets of saturation.

Repair Procedures

Repair will begin with inspection of the area with water sensing equipment, including probes and infrared tools, to locate the source of the damage and its extent. The source of the water will be repaired if possible, such as a leaking pipe. Some damaged materials such as drywall and carpet will be removed and replaced, while other materials such as structural beams or concrete will be dried. Other restoration services will include sanitizing contaminated areas and deodorizing the affected area.

After this labor is completed, equipment for drying such as air movers or scrubbers, dehumidifiers, and specialty floor drying systems may be left in your home for a few days, to ensure that the area is completely dried. If any water is allowed to remain in the area, contamination will continue, causing mold and bacteria growth. After two or three days (or however long is necessary), the area will be reevaluated to be sure that the drying process is complete, and drying equipment will be removed.

We hope you never have to undergo the experience of water damage in your home. But if that day comes, don't wait and let the damage compound.

How To Keep Your Sanity While Remodeling - A Dos And Don'ts List

You have either experienced a nightmare remodeling or know someone who has. But don't let that deter you from creating your dream home. By simply following a few tips you can keep your hair and your sanity and have what you want.

1. Choose a contractor you feel comfortable with and who had genuine good reviews from clients. He should possess good communication skills as they will be invaluable throughout the process.

2. Have a plan: know what you want before you start. Whether remodeling a new bathroom, kitchen or basement, have an idea of what you want it to look like. Also don't forget the details that make life easier like enough electrical outlets, enough counter space or storage for your kitchen appliances.

3. The more details you start with the more time and money you will save in the long run. Realize that once you have a signed contract any changes you make can change the cost and timeframe. If you are not completely sure of those details, a good contractor with a lot of experience can help you figure them out.

4. Don't assume that the lowest bidder will do the best job. What appears to be saving money at the beginning can costs countless headaches and extra money in the long run. It is better to spend a bit more and be worry free ultimately.

5. Ensure that your contractor gives you a contract and timeline. If the contractor you are thinking of hiring is unwilling to give you a written agreement or commit to a time frame, it's time to look for someone else.

6. Make sure that your contractor is licensed and insured. While accidents and damage rarely happen it is a good thing to be prepared. You don't want to be left holding the bag if an unforeseen mishap occurs.

7. Your contractor should pull permits where they are required. Trying to cut corners by doing a job illegally spells trouble. Should a building inspector catch wind of a job being done without a permit, the job will be shut down and fines can be levied, and that in turns means more time and more money. It's simply not worth it.

8. Don't micromanage the job. If you hired the right contractor, he knows what he is doing and micromanaging him, or his crew, will cause aggravation and add time which all translates into more money being spent.

9. Remove valuable and breakable out of the construction zone. A construction zone is as the name implies, and not a space for a favorite vase or picture frame.

10. Seal off any entrance to other rooms from the construction zone with plastic sheeting and masking tape. While it is almost impossible to keep dust from traveling to other parts of the house, it is best to keep it to a minimum.

11. Make sure you do a final inspection. Walk through the job with your contractor and together you can put together a list of all minor details that have to be finished if needed.

12. Keep in mind that remodeling doesn't last forever and that soon or later the process will be over but your new space will be a source of enjoyment.

13. If your contractor did a good job (and if you chose right, he should) give him a good reference.

Remodeling can be an easy experience with a few simple rules

Fire Damage - Factors to Consider When Choosing a Remediation Service

When your property has been burned by fire it can be devastating. Precious belongings and even loved ones can be lost forever. Cleaning up the mess can be painful and seem impossible. Fortunately there are remediation services available to help clean and restore the property during this difficult time.

You will want to choose a remediation service that will check and restore the stability of the building. A fire can compromise the structure of your property and a qualified company ought to inspect the building and determine what needs to be done. Electrical wiring can also undergo damage and a remediation service should remove and replace all electrical wiring and connections that are damaged. They should start from the ceiling and work down the walls to collect all the fallen debris on the ground before they replace the flooring.

They should also ventilate the room by opening all windows and bringing in industrial fans. This is done to remove the smoke odor that is present. You must also make sure that the service plans to deep clean the building with HEPA vacuums to remove all soot and ashes that creep into every crack and crevice imaginable. Remaining fine dust from the fire can cause respiratory problems in the future if not removed.

You will also want a company that can restore many of your personal belongings. A remediation service will remove all objects with too much damage and try to restore all objects that have minimal damage. Many property owners are surprised to learn that their books, furniture, artwork, valuable documents, and electronic devises can be saved.

In almost all cases, you will need to leave while the work is being done. Often times the building materials with fire damage release toxic gases and only trained professionals wearing the proper protection know how to identify and neutralize these gases. When choosing a company you will need to know how long it will take to restore the property. If it is your home or business, you will need to make the proper arrangements for temporary relocation while the work is being done.

It is also important to ask whether the remediation agency will handle the insurance claims. Most victims of a fire, usually prefer that the service take care of the claims because it is one less stress factor on their plate to worry about.

Dealing With Disaster and Planning Restoration

Disaster can strike any commercial building or residence at anytime. Whether it is a storm that strikes or a fire that engulfs the building, disaster in any form is often severely damaging to the property, as well as to the people who live or reside inside it. However, for a quick and efficient recovery, restoration needs to be taken up in a professional manner, at the earliest possible time.

All across the US, there are thousands of commercial and residential buildings that fall prey to unforeseen disaster, like fire or water that infiltrates walls and floors, and floods the entire facility. If your home or office has suffered from mishaps like these, then you are at the receiving end of emotional trauma and financial loss. A water or fire disaster may lead to destruction of interior structural materials, furnishings, and electrical equipment and in the worst case, precious metals, jewels and cash. That is why, in the case of any sort of disaster, you need to gather your wits and focus on restoring as much as you can.

You need to act immediately to stabilize the loss and mitigate damage. Only then can you achieve the maximum recovery of items like furniture, carpeting, electronics, machinery and documents. Rapid action is needed to minimize replacement costs, as well as prevent the facility or home from getting exposed to further damage like mold. In most cases, restoration is best handled by professionals. They can carry out the entire task speedily and effectively. Add to that their trained crew who use the latest equipment, and you will see the logic behind hiring a restoration company as soon as damage occurs on your property.

However, when one does need to look up a disaster restoration company, they are often quite shaken up, even more so in the case of residential disasters. However, choosing a restoration company needs to be done very carefully as it is probably the one chance you get to fix whatever you can, post disaster. That is why we've listed below a few essential services that you must expect from a damage restoration and maintenance company.

• Providing The Solutions: The company must have skilled staff that can judge the amount of damage and determine what can be saved. They must also be able to recommend the equipment required for restoration, the process and the expected results of the same.

•Managing The Operation: The damage control company must be able to have a dedicated team that will be able to handle your case. They must also define a time period within which the restoration work will be completed with guaranteed results.

• Using The Latest Techniques: Whether it is to remove soot and clean the smoke laden walls after a fire,or dehumidification and drying of a facility post a flood or seepage, they must be able to limit indoor air quality problems and make the room/office/facility habitable quickly.

• Comprehensive Cleaning and Disinfecting: Post disaster, there are chances of allergies and infections due to remnants left behind. The company must sanitize, disinfect interior surfaces, and also eliminate contamination from mold, bacteria, mildew, and other potential biological hazards.

• Efficient Disposal and Minimal Demolition: The company must try to save as many items as it can. If however, certain portions have to be demolished, then that needs to be done in a cautious manner.

Top 3 Reasons to Get Help From Restoration Companies

Almost everywhere in America has some kind of natural disaster to deal with. Blizzards, occasional tornadoes, flooding and other bad weather events are inevitable depending on which region you are living in. Restoration companies can help if your home is damaged by these natural disasters. Fires, flood and even vandalism are also top causes of damage to private homes and commercial properties. Whether you need your own house fixed, or are a landlord who needs repair of a rental property, calling in professional services just makes good sense.

Top 3 Reasons to Get Help from Restoration Companies

While you could call a general contractor or builder after your property is damaged, hiring restoration companies is often the better option. There are lots of reasons to bring in the professionals who specialize in restoration after damage happens, but here are the top three reasons why you should always trust the experts:

1. Fixing damage can require both demolition and repairs. It is very different to rebuild after a disaster than to simply build from scratch or even to remodel. Fires, floods, and other natural disasters that cause damage can affect the foundation and stability of the building in unexpected ways. Problems can develop when things are destroyed by nature, rather than by an ordered demolition. Companies that specialize in restoration understand how to deal with the process of dealing with a destroyed home or property and fixing it to be as good as new. In many cases, your home or property will be even better than before after the rehab is done.

2. Damaged properties can have special hazards. When a property is destroyed or severely damaged, there may be many problems. Health risks can include exposure to asbestos if your building is older. The special hazards associated with rehabilitating and repairing a damaged building are not issues that every builder or contractor has the capacity to deal with. You want to make sure you trust a company that knows how to handle the issues that are unique to doing the repair work after a disaster.

3. Restoration companies are used to damaged spaces. You may want to rebuild your home or property exactly the way it was before the damage occurred, especially if you have an older home or a historic home. In other cases, you may want to go in a new direction and create something beautiful out of the damage that was done. Regardless of which option you choose, you need to work with professionals who can see the potential even in a damaged space. Professionals that specialize in restoration will be able to look around and help you to formulate a plan to get your space back the way you or your tenants prefer it to look.

These are three of many reasons why choosing to hire restoration companies is often the best choice. If your home or property has been damaged or destroyed, you need to rebuild as quickly as possible so you can move on with your life. Call in the professionals today to get your project underway.

Home Remodeling After a Catastrophe

After a tornado, flood, earthquake or other natural disaster there can be significant damage to a house. This can cause serious need for repairs and restoration but hopefully insurance will be available to cover the costs. Instead of simply putting things back to the status quo, why not take the opportunity to do some long awaited home remodeling and not just fix things but also improve them?

Home remodeling is usually done by demolishing or stripping out the materials in a room or section of the house, so why not just look at the damage as nature's demolition crew. In a way, you might save time and money by having the weather do the dirty work.

After a flood is a great time to look into installing wood floors or renovating a basement. Tornado damage to a wall of the house may be the perfect time to begin that addition or redesign you have been considering. Also, perhaps the loss of many shingles to high wind and heavy rain means that the time has come to re-roof the house. Home remodeling may be the silver lining of the tragedy and catastrophe that has been foisted upon a property owner.

Home remodeling may not be entirely covered by insurance because these liability companies often seek to pay just enough to restore things to the way they were before. That does not mean that a little extra investment or a creative use of the insurance settlement cannot be used to improve things. If the building flooded, it is probably worth paying for shoring to lift it and prevent future problems of that kind. If the windows blew out in a hurricane maybe higher wind-speed-rating units can be invested in. In situations where an earthquake cracked the foundation, it can be assessed, sealed, and perhaps retrofitted to prevent against future shifting. Maybe the building even needs to be leveled.

This is not meant to diminish the severity and upsetting aspects of a disaster. Home remodeling instead offers a chance to focus on something else. It is easy to get tied up in worrying and grieving for what was lost in an unexpected disaster. While nobody should entirely ignore and repress their grief, at some point everyone needs a distraction to help them return to normal life. While it may not be able to repair the emotional damage of experiencing these events, perhaps it offers a diversion to heal and move forward. If nothing else, it is a chance to improve the protection of structures from similar future problems.

How to Prevent Water Damage to Your Home

Because damage caused by moisture can be extensive and difficult to repair, homeowners often go to special lengths to prevent it from happening in the first place. If a leak does occur, fast action is paramount to minimize permanent problems with the structure and interior of your home.

Structural Soundness

Excess moisture from rain or snow can cause water damage to a home. Before purchasing a house, you'll want to be sure the structure is sound and not susceptible to leaks.

If the ground around your home becomes saturated with rainwater or runoff, it could find a way into the house through cracks and leaks in the foundation. Faulty gutters could contribute to issues with wetness. Gutters are responsible for collecting precipitation and routing it away from a home's foundation. When gutters are clogged, rainwater and melted snow may not be diverted correctly and excess moisture could accumulate around the foundation.

The roof is another area where moisture can enter a home. Damaged or missing shingles are a common leak point. Sealing issues around chimneys and roof vents can also lead to leakage. You could even find water damage from leaks around doors and windows that are not sealed properly.

Termite Trouble

A termite infestation can lead to water damage. As termites eat through wood in flooring and walls, the wood left behind could cause leakage from precipitation. Leaving termite-damaged wood in place without repairing it could lead to wetness issues.

Plumbing Problems

Plumbing problems can cause significant water damage in a home. Leaking pipes can lead to small and major messes, depending on the size of the leaks and the amount of water running through the pipes. If plumbing problems occur and no one notices the issue immediately, catastrophic damage could occur. Even a small leak could cause dampness with far-reaching effects. Aside from unsightly water marks on your walls or ceilings, mold could develop.

Mold and Mildew

Any amount of wetness in the home can lead to the development of mold and mildew. Mold may develop in areas where you cannot see and detect it immediately, which can enable it to spread. Mold growing under floors and behind walls can be difficult to remove. Mold also produces spores that release into the air. These spores can cause illness such as upper respiratory symptoms, wheezing, and even pneumonitis. Children can be especially susceptible to health problems from mold.

If you notice any water damage in your home, analyze the severity to determine whether you need professional assistance. Professionals can assist you with cleanup services, including assessing your home for mold.
