The California Building Standards Code is a compilation of three types of building standards from three different origins:
Building standards that have been adopted by state agencies without change from building standards contained in national model codes;
Building standards that have been adopted and adapted from national model codes to address California’s ever-changing conditions; and
Building standards, authorized by the California legislature, that constitute amendments not covered by national model codes, that have been created and adopted to address particular California concerns.
All occupancies in California are subject to national model codes adopted into Title 24, and occupancies are further subject to amendments adopted by state agencies and ordinances implemented by local jurisdictions’ governing bodies.

It is the process of repairing a house or property to its pre loss condition. Damage to the property could be because of an overflow, flood or any other water damage event. The water damage restoration process involves several key procedures like loss assessment, categorization based on the water contamination levels, decontaminating and drying the structure, monitoring of the process and completion of the process. There are two large certifying bodies, namely the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification) and the RIA (Restoration Industry Association) that recommends standards for water damage restoration. The S500 damage due to water guide is the benchmark tool that is used by companies that specialize in restoration of water damage.
Loss Assessment and Categorization
Loss evaluation is the first and the most important step in water damage restoration. The assessment has to be correct so that an appropriate response can be taken. In restorating the damage caused by water, technicians and the insurance companies must work together and understand what is damaged and how to go about restoring the damage. Identifying the source of the damage, documentation of damage, and accurate estimates are mandatory for a proper water damage restoration. Categorization is based on the contamination levels of the water source. The categories are listed below
Category 1 - This is water from clean sources like pipes, sinks and toilets without faeces or urine.
Category 2 - This is water that has some contaminants like water from a dishwasher, washing machine or toilet with urine.
Category 3 - This is water that is highly unsanitary and is capable of causing illness or death if ingested. Sewage water, water from toilet with faeces, standing water with microbial growth and floodwater are some examples.
Decontamination and Drying
After the evaluation is complete, the process of drying and decontaminating begins at the site. Based on the extent of damage, damage caused due to water can be classified into 4 types. Class 1 Damage- When loss is restricted to a small area and less water has been absorbed by materials. This results in slow evaporation rate. Class 2 Damage - When the damage is to the entire room and carpet area. Class 3 Damage - When the entire area is saturated with water and Class 4 Damage - when there are many deep saturation pockets. Decontamination and drying is a key stage in Water damage restoration and equipments like blowers, dehumidifiers, scrubbers and subfloor drying equipments have to be used. Decontamination has to be done if contamination has been detected in the area. Decontamination may be done for the entire area or in specific pockets where contamination has been detected.
Monitoring and Completion
Monitoring the restoration process of damage caused due to damage is critical to achieve the desired results. One has to be proactive during the monitoring process. Checking if the drying equipment is setup properly, assessing if the personnel involved are qualified for the job and checking if the equipments are in working order are all part of the monitoring process. Necessary steps are to be taken if anything wrong is spotted during the monitoring process. The entire process of water damage restoration would be classified as complete only once the humidity, temperature and the moisture content is as per industry standards. Upon completion of the water damage restoration process, the drying equipment can be removed.

HISTORY OF NATIONAL FIRST RESPONDERS DAY
Congress designated October 28th as National First Responders Day in 2017. The resolution honors the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and all those who are first on the scene in stressful situations. Notably, the family of Sean Collier, a police officer ambushed and murdered during events related to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, supported the resolution.
A 1966 federal study called Accidental Death and Disability: The Neglected Disease of Modern Society named accidental injuries as the “leading cause of death in the first half of life’s span.”
Further, the report showed that vehicle accidents during 1965 alone killed more Americans than were lost in the Korean War — and stated that seriously wounded citizens would fare better in a war zone than on the average city street. The report also identified a lack of regulation or standards for ambulance operations or provider training.
The authors made several recommendations for both managing and preventing accidental injuries, including the standardization of emergency training for “rescue squad personnel, policemen, firemen and ambulance attendants.” This standardization led to the first nationally recognized curriculum for EMTs (emergency medical technicians).
Professional training today can take anywhere from one to three years. Candidates learn life support techniques in first-response situations, including CPR, tourniquet application, and treatment of wounds. Paramedics deliver more advanced procedures and therefore require more extensive education and training.

Insurance is required to protect your business properties which might fall prey to extensive damages for a number of calamities. Such calamities which can damage your property include typhoon, landslides, fire, riot or lighting. Many insurance companies offer cover for your property against all these dangers so that you do not have to worry about the outcomes of unforeseen circumstances. A typical fire insurance policy protects your business and provides financial assistance so that you can recover the losses and start your business once again. This plan considers all properties that can be damaged by fire or other natural calamities. Additional reimbursement is provided for earthquake and terrorism related harms. There are several options for including stocks which consists of floater policy, policy related to declaration and both floater and declaration policy.
The fire insurance policy usually protects your assets against fire, implosion, explosion, lightning, strike, riot, aircraft damage, storms like cyclone, typhoon, hurricane and tornado, inundation and flood, landslides, damage due to bursting of pipes, water tanks and other apparatus, operations involving missile testing, leakage resulting from sprinkler installation and bush fire. With a small amount of extra premium you can avail any of the added facilities likes payment of architect, surveyor and consulting engineers, removal of debris, deteriorated cold storage stocks, forest fire, damages caused by the insurer's roads or rails, earthquake including shock and fire, contamination and leakage.
Fire insurance policy does not cover certain aspects of damages such as fire caused by spontaneous combustion, natural heating or fermentation, burning by public authority, implosion or explosion in one's own property causing bursting of boilers and other machines producing steam, cessation of services dues to riots or strikes, theft or burglary, normal cracking due to land, river or sea erosion, defects in design or building materials, loss caused by war or pollution or any other hazard that is not mentioned in the insurance policy or damage of the same apparatus which is the cause of fire or any other losses as a consequence of the initial damage. Fire insurance policy is usually valid for a span of one year. Policies can be subjected to an extension and attractive discounts are available on the premium for extending the fire insurance policy. Such a policy is very useful for the safeguard of your business assets against natural hazards.
The fact is that any fire accident is unexpected, but can have devastating impact not only on your business or home, but also on your life. And, having fire insurance can help you take a step closer to a safer future.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/7817571It may be hard to believe, but NFPA's latest report on Home Structure Fires shows that during the years 2014-2018, five general fire causes accounted for 86% of reported home fires, 95% of home fire deaths, and 83% of home fire injuries.
Cooking was, by far, the leading cause of home fires and fire injuries, and was the second leading cause of home fire deaths. Because cooking is such a routine part of our lives, it’s easy to forget the high temperatures and dangers involved.
Heating equipment is the second leading cause of home fires and the third leading cause of home fire deaths. Creosote build-up in chimneys was the most common cause of these fires, while fires involving fixed and portable space heaters caused most of the heating fire deaths.
Electrical distribution or lighting equipment was the third leading cause of home fires and the fourth leading cause of home fire deaths. Conditions that make these fires possible can occur long before a fire presents – largely as a result of wiring being installed or repaired incorrectly, or when receptacles, power strips or cords are overloaded, etc.
Intentional fire-setting was the fourth leading cause of home fires and the fifth highest reason for home fire deaths. According to death certificate data from all intentional fire deaths (not just home fires), nearly two-thirds of intentional fire deaths were suicides.
Although smoking materials ranked fifth in terms of home fires, they caused the most amount of home fire deaths during this time period. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), only 17 percent of adults smoked combustible tobacco products in 2017.
